People who promote 2012 are doing so to sell books and advertising on their doomsday shows. After each “predicted” doomsday passes with nothing happening there is a new one invented. I have watched the 2012 Doomsday program on the History (Hysteria) Channel. The content isn’t about any real 2012 event happening and it isn’t about history. It is about selling books and selling advertising on the TV programs.
There is no scientific theory that anything unusual is going to happen in 2012. ZERO scientists believe that anything out of the ordinary will happen in 2012. It is all total CRAP. These people are interested in one thing – MONEY. And by listening to their programs and/or buying their books you provide them with – MONEY. The more MONEY they make the more twists and turns they invent to make it more interesting so you will listen to new TV programs so they can make even MORE MONEY.
If you had hogwash to sell wouldn’t you try and package it so looked like prime rib? That is just what these shysters are doing… selling to those who will listen – HOGWASH. Drink deep!!! They need MORE MONEY. They need YOUR MONEY.
By the way… 2012 isn’t the first Doomsday prediction. Here is a link to other Doomsday predictions from the past and present…

This particular calendar, one of the many which humans have invented to keep track of time, comes to the end of a cycle. I just don’t understand why this is such a big deal to some people. It certainly is nothing special to astronomers.

It isn’t. It’s the ending of one long count (Baktun) and the beginning of the next.

I personally think that it’s all a load of garbage. There are like ten different theories as to what will happen, it’s not going to. But if it does, think about it this way, there is nothing you or i can do to stop it, so sit back and enjoy the rest of your life, if it be many years, or three and a half.

It seems that the Mayans used a calendar system which only had a limited lifespan before it would no longer be valid. After 2012-12-21 (to use a more logical date format) it will no longer be possible to express the date using the Mayan calendar. This will cause inconvenience to no-one as that calendar is no longer used.
But does it mean the world will end? Well, why should it? How on Earth would the Mayans have known the date of the end of the world?
The mystery to me is why so many people seem to believe it.
There’s another calendar system in use at the moment – that used for storing dates in computers. It is not possible to store dates beyond 2038-01-19, 03:14:07. No reason to believe the world will end yet again, but if it’s not fixed, it will cause computers to crash, much more significant than the Y2K non-event.

I think that too much is made of it.
The Mayan calendar does not “end” on that date, any more that the Gregorian calendar “ended” on 12/31/1999. The Mayan ‘long count’ calendar ticks over to 13.0.0.0.0 on 12/21/2012. The day after is 13.0.0.0.1.
Any doomsday scenarios surrounding this date are hoaxes.
Edit: only two thumbs down? You goons are slipping. I used to get 4 or 5 in the first ten minutes.

Would you buy it, if people tell you, that the world will end in the year 9999, because our calendar ends then?
Of course, our calendar does not end then, after all, we just count years.
And the same applies to the Mesoamerican long-count calendar, but this counts days instead.
It is claimed, that the Calendar will end on 13.0.0.0.0, because the previous world in Maya mythology also ended on that day. But this is first of all wrong in terms of mythology (The current world is a success in the eyes of the gods and thus not destroyed, like the other worlds) and also, the 13.0.0.0.0 is also likely wrong, as there is no original source for this claim, and only one book mentions it.

I don’t believe it at all, I think its just people trying to make a buck selling there books. Those same types of people said that it was gonna end in 2000 and nothing happened.

Winter solstice- December 21, 2012 – is just the revealing of the ‘antichrist’ or the ‘man of perdition’ at the mid-point of what Christians call the 7 year Tribulation (just subtract 1260 days to get the start and add 1260 days to get the end). Satanists and many pagan cultures from every corner of the world all throughout history have celebrated this like the Sumerians, Babylonians, Cherokee, Hopi, Chinese I-Ching (confirmed by Terence McKenna), Mayans (Pacal Votan; Chilam Balam of Tizimin, Mani, Chumayel; Jaguar Prophet), Egyptians, Celts, etc. This evil event is called “the abomination that causes desolation” that will be set up in the Jewish Temple’s Holy of Holies when the antichrist is imbued with the spirit of satan himself. When will Jesus come? Only God Himself knows exactly, but very soon in “the twinkling of an eye” and like “a thief in the night”. If you believe or not, that is up to you; either way it still comes.
Things to look for to PROVE it to yourself soon:

Christians look forward to this as it means they will soon join their Saviour & Redeemer in the Millennial Kingdom of the next Age and their Heavenly Father later as “Children of Light”. I really don’t think anything will happen:
The first thing is people shouldn’t be scared of the approaching date of 12/21/2012. Often Doomsday prophecies are very scary, but the Mayan calendar only stops on that day. The Mayan’s never predicted that this would be the end-of-the-world, but the beginning of a new age! Many more predictions about specific dates of the end of times, have been made in the past which have never come true. The predictions of end times appear to increase in certain time periods. After the crucifixion of Jesus Christ the apostles started predicting that the end was near way back then.
During world wars 1&2, the Korean war, and Vietnam war, there were also many predictions of the end times. The media and television programs about 12/21/2012 are only trying to cash in on all of the hype and make a quick profit with 12/21/2012 fast approaching. It is true that mankind is obviously on the edge of another great change, with the recent economic crisis looming, global climate changes occurring, the speed of Internet communication ever increasing. Religious and moral differences world-wide are causing conflicting belief systems about the planets future. The doom and gloom prophecies about December 12, 2012; may or may not have any basis in fact or reality at all!
Do you remember the Y2K frenzy? There is however one interesting astronomical phenomenon that will happen on 12/21/2012 when the sun rises on that day, as seen from Central America, it will be in the direction of Sagittarius in the exact center of the galaxy. While the Mayans deserve credit for figuring this out, as well as all the rest of their marvelous astronomy, none of this means their mythology is reality based. In fact they couldn’t even predict their own future of what tomorrow might bring!

The fact that such a simple question has caused such debate is saying something. I don’t know what will happen, no one does. The future is made from everyone’s input.
