Critically examining the "End of the World"
Can anyone tell me about this 2012 end of the world thing?
The following is a question being asked on Yahoo Answers. Both the questions and answers given do not reflect the view of our website.
Question:
My daughter recently came across this from a website and she was affected by it. Is this true?

She must be young. No its not true. December 21st, 2012 is the date that the Mayan Calendar ends. The mayan calendar has succesffully predicted solar eclipses thousands of years in the future down to the second. However, nowhere in the mayan text does it speak of the end of the world. There is an entire fan base of doomsdayers who have come out with all sorts of wild ideas about 2012, from alien invasions to rogue planets crashing into earth. The bottom line is there is zero scientific evidence……..or even remote possibility that anything out of the ordinary will occurr in 2012. A superstitious belief by superstitious people. Tell your daughter she can relax

There is so much stuff out there and there is so much to say about it. The topic of 2012 is interesting to me and I have read a lot about it. What exactly are you asking about? Will the world end in 2012? Doubt it but nobody knows for sure. Is planet x (or Niburu) going to change earth and kill us? There’s no proof of planet x, that’s junk.

Many people believe that it is true. Personally I do not. There have been so many ‘end of the world’ predictions in previous years that have not come true. Everyone thought the world would end on the 6/6/06… well… that was over two years ago and I can still see the world out of my bedroom window. So really, don’t worry about it. If you want an explanation of how/why people come up with these theories, please check the link below. It uses some colourful language and it is humorous but it is something people can understand, and I believe that it is true. I doubt that humans have the capacity to predict the end of the world.

Google more about it and watch the history channel, they will tell you all about it, and google myan 2012 calander. It might and might not happen.
What could happen:Solar flair, Gamma ray burst, Meteor, Aliens, Magnetic Shift, etc…
But all this might not happen, so just go on with your life and if it happens, it happens.

Apparently, 2012 has a direct effect on your spelling.
Other than that, I wouldn’t worry about it. The proponents of the 2012 hoax were mental cases who claimed to have taken rides on Flying Saucers, there was a druggie, and a guy that believed that he was reincarnated. You decide.
It doesn’t help their argument that the only people that seem to believe in the whole 2012 thing are people that never took a science class in their lives.

No its not true. Nothing is gonna happen, don’t worry. People said that the world was gonna end in 2000, BUT GUESS WHAT? NOTHING HAPPENED. IT WAS JUST ANOTHER REGULAR YEAR.
The Bible didn’t say anything about the world ending anyway. It just said that Jesus is coming soon and that he is gonna give us a decision whether have him in his heart and go to Heaven with him or stay on earth and do whatever you want and go to hell when you die.
