Critically examining the "End of the World"
christians a view that debunks the 2012 end of the world garbage?
The following is a question being asked on Yahoo Answers. Both the questions and answers given do not reflect the view of our website.
Question:
a christian believes in the tribulation, it’s 7 years. if the world ends in less than 4 years.that means we would ALREADY be in the tribulation, and we are not , so from a christian point of view the world cannot end in 2012.your thoughts?

I think all a person needs is common sense.

That myth debunked itself as soon as it came out.

Only God the Father knows when the end will come. I can tell you that the way things are moving the end is soon. After Pope Benedict comes the Antichrist whether we like it or not.

Show me where the Bible says 7 years tribulation. I could not find it.
I don’t think the world will end in 2012 but it could end before then.

What is this 2012 end of the world stuff? I haven’t heard of it. Especially if it’s supposed to be a christian belief. I find that surprising.

Although I do not believe that the world will necessairly end in 2012, what about today leads you to believe that we are not in the tribulation period? The first 3 1/2 years of the tribulation are natural disasters and economic in nature. The last 3 1/2 years is when the wrath of God is poured out upon the earth and its people.

I agree with you. Good thinking!

God alone knows when Christ will come not man.

Good point! But let me add that Christians believe it is a world without end. But, time as we know it will end. It will be a new world purified for the return of Christ. But just to play into the 2012 idea. The tribulation by many Christians is believed to be only the last three and a half years of the seven years. The Bible says the Antichrist will make a peace treaty for seven years and brake the treaty in three in a half years, claiming he is god. That leaves the second three and a half years. Maybe, if the peace treaty was signed around 2009 and a half give or take it would still be possible.

First of all: NO ONE KNOWS FOR SURE WHEN! ONLY GOD knows!
Second: “a few things” will happen before the end! It might be close, near, but no not yet! Global warming: there’s no such thing as this…it took thousands, millions of years and a few generations of human could “destroy” or “consume” the planet and it’s resources? I don’t think so! Please, use common sense, read the Scriptures(GOD’s Word) and see for yourself!
Agree that we might be entering a tribulation period, but again, we don’t know for sure, but we can trust the BIBLE…
Either way, if that’s the case, JESUS CHRIST is coming back, and HE will take His church with Him!!!

i figure the whole 2012 is falling into MY theory:
mayan guy makes many man calendar years correct? he says hot mayan women outside and realizes, “why the fuck am i making all these calendars? im not even gonna live this long!!!!” so it just happens to end at 2012,
put humor in the end, its ok to die. we all will eventually, especially Armageddon at hand

The whole 2012 thing isn’t the “end of the world” it’s supposedly the “end of the world as we know it”
Either way, just live your life as if Jesus is returning tomorrow. He may, you never know. Tomorrow is not guaranteed.

It is logically impossible to debunk a few vague prophecies grasped from several different sources and cultures. All will be debunked (or not) in 2012.
One of several Mayan calendars is the Long Count calendar, which is reset to day 0 every 1,872,000 days or 7057.5 years. The next reset date, by some calculations, is December 21, 2012. This is not a prediction of the end of the world.
Ever since the Y2K and 6/6/6 (June 6, 2006) End of the World scenarios did not pan out, the scare mongers, conspiracy theorists, book sellers, and television executives have been touting the 2012 End of the World scenario. When 2012 does not happen either, I am sure they will think of something else.
“But of that day or hour, no one knows, neither the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. Be watchful! Be alert! You do not know when the time will come.” (Mark 13:32-33)
Jesus told us in no uncertain terms that we were not to know when the end of the world would come but that we were always to be ready.
The early Christian Church thought that Jesus was going to return at any moment. Only after a couple of centuries did the Church realize that it may be 2,000 or 4,000 or 8,000 years before Jesus returns.
The Catholic Church wisely follows Jesus’ advice and teaches that each of us should live as if we will meet our maker in the next ten minutes and that we need to work to make the world a better place for our 100 X great-grandchildren.
Do not worry about the end of the world. Trust God to make sure everything happens to plan. Just be ready to meet God at any time.

Good lord, who said Christians believed that the world would end in 2012? That’s the Mayans, who died a long long time ago. Most Christians don’t believe the world will end in 2012, as the Bible specifically says that we won’t know when it’s going to end.
