Critically examining the "End of the World"
Does anyone believe the world will end in 2012?
The following is a question being asked on Yahoo Answers. Both the questions and answers given do not reflect the view of our website.
Question:
I never knew anything about the theory that the world will end until the movie trailer came out. I assumed that it was just a movie until I heard a bunch of stuff from people saying the movie was based on a prophecy of the Mayans. I am freaked out by it but don’t really think it will happen. Do any of you?

Only morons.
Trust me, there is no evidence for it. The main reason that everyone is so worked up is because the Mayan calendar is reaching a major turning point. It’s only going to cycle to a new iteration, much like your watch might, from 12:59 to 1:00. There is nothing to worry about. Galactic alignment has no bearing on our planet; our core will not melt (it’s molten anyways); and we had a very similar scare in 1999 about y2k, and guess what, we’re still here.

Hop, skip, and jump down to your local bookstore or library and pick up the current copy of “Skeptic” magazine. There’s a long article in it that explains the whole mess: how it got started–not Mayans at all–how it picked up steam, why it’s all a pack of lies. Interesting reading.

It isn’t based on the Mayans. It’s based on some lies some people made up about the Mayans. Their calendar doesn’t even reset, it’s just a significant aniversary of the creation of the world. Not any astronomic prediction of crazy crap happening.
Basically some fraudsters wanted to make money, and got bored about making up stories about how the world is being taken over by giant reptiles in people suits.

well since im a christian,i think that ONLY if God picks that day to be the end of the world,it will end,but God AND ONLY God knows if thats gonna be the last day,and yea,yea i know about the mayan calander,think about this,the mayan lived centuries back,they could be down rite stupid for all we know,and seriosly,if you were making a calender,wouldn’t it have to eventualy stop one day?lol what if they just got tired?
and also if your really scared,this might sooth your nerves,they though the exact same thing in 2001,did it happen?no.lol i was just like 4 in 2001,but my mom said alot of ppl were scared and stuff,since they though all of the technollogy would explode,the only difference is they didnt make a movie about it:( lol o well,my advice,don’t be scared….and again God could PEACEFULLY end time anyday,so live life to the fullest:)
