In fact, this alignment happens each and every year. So why is 2012 any different? He also explains many other non-scientific Mayan perceptions of cosmology. Including the observation that the Mayans thought the Earth was flat, had four corners, and was held up in space on the back of a crocodile and five trees of various bright colors. Which is in and of itself intriguing and culturally important but factually NOT TRUE.
