I’ve heard everything about the mayans and their calander but I still don’t get it. I’m not very religous but in the bible it states that god predicted the end of the world but no man would know the date. I’m pretty sure that includes the mayans. Also how could they know the planetery allignment without a telescope or anything?

Since 2007, I’ve been hearing a lot of talk about the world coming to an end in December of 2012. I’ve done quite a bit of research on it, and the reasons do seem quite believable, and convincing. But then again, there have been many false predictions about it like the Y2K. What do you think?

It gets annoying after a while. I am always here in the Earth Sciences & Geology section answering questions. I always see questions about the world ending in 2012.

The reason why I am asking this question is I want to reassure people that the world will NOT end on December 21, 2012. No human being (or even most brillant scientist) can’t predict when the end of the world is coming. Each time the end of the world is predicted they are always wrong. I got proof the world ain’t ending in 2012 and here it is:
*Planet X won’t hit the Earth, it doesn’t exsit
*It could be possible the Mayans got bored with the Calendar and didn’t see a point in going further
*Alpha Particles and Sun rays always hit the Earth even now
*The Magnetic Poles won’t switch. You are all acting like it will happen in one day. That process takes thousands of years.

So, can somebody please explain to me why you all have issues with believing that the world won’t end in 2012?
Besides, I wish you guys would take your 2012 garbage to the Religion and Spirtuality section. Please?? It is a religious matter more than a scientific matter.

A. Ganapathy India, that is indeed true. I wish that those who spread rumors be punished. You know whats sad, when people commit suicide over this and this “2012 theory” shows that it really isn’t true.

I’m not some bible thumper and I know people have always thought the world was going to end in their time but… so many cultures have predicted 2012 to be around the time of the end of the world, some scientists are talking about a polar shift, the Christians say everything that’s happening matches the end times in the bible, and countries like the US and Russia both have enough nuclear weapons to destroy the earth 30 times over in just a click of a button. Hoenstly all it would take is one nutjob to gain power. Then there’s that whole hadron collider thing… Record number of hurricanes and earth quakes…

What do you think? Can be from either a scientific or religious take I don’t really care.
All it would take is for one country to hit another country with a nuke (pakistan vs. india, north korea vs. south korea, islam radicals, etc.) and we will go into nuclear war and all die within 30 minutes. Anyone that doesn’t die will die from nuclear fallout and the atmosphere will likely erupt into flames suffocating and melting any survivors.
The 2012 prediction is the first one where people actually mock all the other predictions before it.
Myth Bomber- how do you know a comet won’t hit the earth? Or we’ll go into nuclear war? Very few planets actually exist until the sun burns out you know….
“It” might not end but life for humans could easily.
ridge63 – You know I have respect for your beliefs I don’t know why you can’t respect mine. I’m not “predicting” anything and don’t appreciate my religion being chastized. You’re a sad little man and I’d bet my bottom five dollars that you are probably a worse person than any of the “evil” Christians you constantly demean.
