Critically examining the "End of the World"
What are some scientific theories surrounding 2012? (SERIOUS answers only please)?
The following is a question being asked on Yahoo Answers. Both the questions and answers given do not reflect the view of our website.
Question:
Many people believe December 21, 2012 will be the end of the world, and many people believe so for many different reasons. Some people have already quit their jobs because they have enough $ in savings to last them thru 12/21/12.
What are some actual scientific theories that support the belief concerning the end of days or a major catastrophic event in 2012? (Exluding Mayan or ancient myths)

There are no credible theories that support this belief.

Not one reputable scientist believes this hoax. It’s complete nonsense.
Here is what the real scientists at NASA have to say:

and here is what the famous astronomer Neil Tyson has to say:

2012 is a complete 100% junk science hoax, running wild on the internet.

There are no scientific theories that support this belief. As for your assertion that “Some people have already quit their jobs because they have enough $ in savings to last them thru 12/21/12″ would you care to cite ONE of them?
I’ll do you a deal. I’ll loan you $5 to be repaid as a single instalment on 1/1/2013. The interest rate is a rather high 1500% but that doesn’t matter, since neither of us will be alive then.
Care to take up this offer?

There are absolutely none.
We know who created the Big 2012 Hoax (it is a recycling of the 2003 hoax, the one for which Planet X was invented).
Even the “Mayan connection” is a recent invention. Some dude pretending to be the descendant of a Mayan priest, invented the idea that the Mayan calendar ends. He invented this lie for a book he was selling in the 1990s.
When the Planet X charlatans had to recycle their hoax in 2003, they chose that date. The charlatans (not the dude) are the ones who invented the idea that the end-of-the-Mayan-calendar was a prediction of the end-of-the-world.
The Mayan calendar does not end… it merely passes a round figure.
our calendar = Mayan calendar
2012.12.20 = 12.19.19.17.19
2012.12.21 = 13.00.00.00.00
2012.12.22 = 13.00.00.00.01
and it continues…
And that is about it. That was the only connection to any semblance of an ancient myth.
If you exclude it, nothing is left. The rest is pure invention.

There are no actual scientific theories that support the belief concerning the end of days or a major catastrophic event in 2012. None at all; none whatsoever. Never have been, and never will be. In fact, all (as in 100% of) scientific theories totally fail to support the belief concerning the end of days or a major catastrophic event in 2012.

Nothing is going to happen

There are none. There are “theories”, but none of them are scientific. There’s in short, absolutely no evidence what so ever to support the idea the world will end in 2012.
People are saying Nibiru, solar storms, everything, but it’s all false…

There are exactly no scientific theories or facts backing up the supposed big events for 21 December 2012. The only thing that will happen is the solstice, and that happens twice every year.
There is not a sane informed adult on this planet, scientist or not, who gives this material any credence at all. It is entirely delusion and lies.
There are two fact that are usually trotted out, both of which are irrelevant. The first is the fact that the Mayan long count of days reaches a “round” number then. Completely meaningless, the Mayans made no prophecy of doom and who would give a tuppenny damn if they did? There have been hundreds of such prophecies, see the “abhota” site. .
The other is that sunrise on that day will more or less match up with some feature in space, according to John Major Jenkins. However it has been doing that for the best past of 50 years and will keep on doing it for the best part of another 50 years. The closest match was actually in 1998. Nobody noticed anything. This also has no meaning since it is merely astrology, an entirely discredited system of guesswork. See the “2012hoax” site.

i have actually seen one on a tv show . Many scientist belive that the sun is getting hotter then its regular tempurature and it is blow off these little fire ball like things that are coming closer and closer to the earth and eventually on the date December 21. 2012 they will come to close and hit earth.
There is also a show on the history channel that is called the Acient Aliens . Some belive that there are these 13 crystal skulls and eventually when these thirteen crystal skulls are found the triteenth skull will open up and tell the earth about these 12 other planets with life on them . So when they are found they misght save us from 2012 . they were not made by people . they are belived to be skulls of the Aliens
