What do you think is going to happen on December the 21st, 2012?

From what I gather our solar system is going to line up with the center of the Milky Way, where there’s something called “The Dark Rift.” Supposedly it’s some kind of radio-active black hole, or something of the sort, we cross over every 6000 years or so.

More remarkable would be a time when our solar system wasn’t lined up with centre of the Milky Way. One of the characters about central points is that they’re always lined up with things that are around them. Get a piece of paper, draw a circle on it and mark the centre. Now try and find any point within the circle that isn’t aligned with that centre. Spookily enough or otherwise, I predict you’ll fail to find one.
People will go crazy and loot every building they find the day BEFORE. Because of all this bullcrap people have been saying about the “end of the world” (which isn’t going to happen) we’re probably just going to take the place of a black hole with genocide to live it up before the day we’re all done for, then the day after all the believers will say “Hey, where’s the black hole?” (it never existed, and the mass murder was pointless).
And yes, there IS verified a black hole at the center of our galaxy, and every galaxy. But we’re not going to hit it because our orbits aren’t a perfect circle, we might pass it up by a small shot, but we’ll probably come nowhere near running right into it, and the super-massive black holes at the center of galaxies have dormant phases, we wouldn’t get sucked in if we tried..
well the thing vch is created it has to be culminated either today or tommorow
our sun is millions of yers old but still its culmination time period is yet to come and 2012 is not d perfect timing
well our science has not devbeloped time machine that we can predict that our universe might get culminated till 2012
well best option is just to wait and watch

1) There is no particular alignment of anything on 21st December 2012 except the Sun with the line of solstices.
2) The only alignment which has any effect on us is the twice-monthly alignment of the Sun and Moon which gives us a slightly higher range of tides than usual. Any alignments between any other objects in the entire universe don’t make a scrap of difference to us.
3) These tall stories about what will happen on 21st December 2012 are cooked up by a bunch of frauds and crackpots, who rely on the fact that people don’t understand science and will believe their nonsense. I hope that doesn’t apply to you.
2012 will be just an average year and 21st December will be just an average day and there’s not one jot of scientific evidence which says otherwise.
So, you have heard a lot of lies, but no true information.
“The Dark Rift” is just a New Age name for the Great Rift, a huge chain of molecular dust clouds between us and the center of the universe.

As you can see, it is so huge, that the sun could spend easily weeks in front of this feature of the night sky.The sun doesn’t cross this every 6000 years, but EVERY year. That is so basic astronomy that even ancient cultures already knew that. Who did know that had been New Age cultists who are active since 1970.
It is not a black hole, there are many black holes in the sky actually, without any voodoo going on. The next super-massive one is Sagittarius A* spoken A-star which is right in the center of the galaxy. It 26,000 light-years away (A huge distance, most stars you see at night are closer than 400 light-years), much further away than the great rift, which is 300 light-years away.Contrary to stupid 2012 claims, the sun will not line up with this (as seen from Earth) in 2012, it already did so every winter solstice for 6 years around 1960 – The angular diameter of the sun (as you see it from Earth) is six times bigger as the distance is precesses every year.
So, 2012 will be no special year at all.
PS: Contrary to what the Timewave Zero people try to literally sell you (they want to make money with their doomsday claims, like most such prophets), the I Chang or “Book of Changes” does not contain predictions. It is a book containing astrological guidance to understand the bigger meaning of past events. If your dog died and you can’t understand why he had to die, the I Chang might be able to help you. If you believe in such stuff.
The I Chang is one of the most famous pieces of classic Chinese literature, you really need to be a New Age follower to be ignorant enough to not know its content.

By December 21st, the university where I teach will be in recess. I will probably spend that day, and several after it buying last minute Christmas presents for my folks, and preparing to go stay with my Mom and Dad for a few days. For a working astronomer, 2012 is not likely to be a boom year. The only activity of note really is a transit of Venus. Where you obtained such non-information, I have no idea, but I bet someone is trying to make money from it somewhere. Think of this. They charge money for their books etc. okay? If they are right, why bother, they won’t get chance to spend it anyway. If they are wrong, heh heh, they have pocketed your cash, so who is the winner? Do not be fooled by such junk, and certainly don’t spend money it!
All will carry on as usual.
2012 is a fantasy movie, not a prediction of the future.

The 2012 movie is no more true than the Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs movie, how much sleep did you lose over that ?
As for the Mayan calendar, all calendars end, ours ends on December the 31st, nobody’s panicking over that.

The winter solstice in the northern hemisphere and the summer solstice in the southern hemisphere are the only astronomical events predicted for this date.

Not true. The Sun will by 6.5° away from the centre of the Milky Way on that date, and event of absolutely no astronomical significance.

Where do you people find this nonsense, and why do you believe it?
There will be a shorter period of daylight than any other day of 2012.
Nothing unusual will happen except that the perpetrators of this hoax will lie low for a few days while dreaming up their reasons why nothing happened, and their new doomsday. There is no alignment aside from the one that takes place every year.
Here is an excellent website that covers all the various claims about 2012 and about the charlatans who are promoting it. Go to it and read about the things that have you concerned. They give sources for their information and they aren’t selling anything. The others are NASA Senior Scientist Dr. David Morrison, Dr. Donald Yeomans of JPL Near Earth Object Program, and Dr. Neil DeGrasse Tyson, Director of the Hayden Planetarium, all saying that the 2012 tripe is false.

The Dark Rift is just a melodramatic name for something that doesn’t really exist.
2012 is a hoax.
On December 21st, 2012, the first sounds we will hear will be the sound of the old clock striking 5, and a resounding chorus of “HEIGH HOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!” Yep, you guessed it, the movie Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs will have turned SEVENTY-FIVE YEARS OLD!!!!
And we will be there for it! I don’t care what the frauds say! WE WILL BE THERE. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! And Happy 75th Birthday to Snow White!
