Critically examining the "End of the World"
What do you think will happen on the 21st december 2012?
The following is a question being asked on Yahoo Answers. Both the questions and answers given do not reflect the view of our website.
Question:
i have been researching and i found this: on the 21st December 2012 (The day of the Apocalypse) The Polar shifts are meant to cause chaos, we will have to reprogram and send alot of new satellites out to have the worlds internet and connections working properly, our atmosphere is ment to be failing so we are ment to have a useless defense against cosmic rays and other sorts of asteroids such as planet x a planet circling our Galaxy that is ment to enter the Galaxy for the first time ever and is ment to be heading for the earth… also i have also heard 2012 will mark the anniversary of the worlds changes you see every 25,000 years the worlds ment to change in some way an example is the ice age, some people think we could be re entering one, some others think we could become a very hot planet either way if planet x does crash into our earth or we go into and ice age lots of people will die if both maybe the whole population.. what you have got to remember science has proved alot of these things could happen and most surely will planet x has been found and it is so massive we would have no chance of stopping it you also have to remember that the Mayans were very good with things to do with space and times so i wouldn’t doubt them, why would they just stop the calender!!!??? this has to be the end unless the 13 Mayan crystal skulls can help in some way and yes the are real check on google yet not all of them have been found, and maybe kinesis powers could help who knows?? we will have to wait and see, what are your thoughts on this?

The Mayan calender does not end, it will just shift from the 13th to the 14th b’ak’tun.
Mayan civilization has vanished; were they able to anticipate that? Mayans did human sacrifices to appease their gods; how advanced is that?
The rest of the stuff you “found” out is just garbage. There is no planet X, poles cannot shift (except the magnetic ones, but those shifts occur over the course of several years).
“Kinesis power”… You’re kidding, right?

The only event likely to happen on that date is the solstice, which happens every year on or near that date. None of your “predictions” has any scientific basis.
“2012″ is a hoax designed to scare children and naive adults. Which are you? There is no science behind it, and no scientists believe in it.
The world has existed for over four billion years. Is it reasonable to expect that it will come to an end in less than three years? And all because of a Mayan calendar? Use some common sense.
The most interesting astronomical events in 2012 will be an annular eclipse of the Sun on 2012 May 20, a total eclipse of the Sun on 2012 Nov 13, and a transit of the planet Venus across the face of the Sun on 2012 Jun 06.
Scientists don’t expect anything out of the ordinary to happen in the year 2012, or specifically on the date December 21, except for the solstice, which happens every year.
None of the “predicted” happenings for 2012 hold up under close scrutiny. “Planet X” and “Nibiru” simply don’t exist. The Mayan calendar ends a cycle, but there were no predictions of the end of the world. The Sun doesn’t line up with the galactic centre; it’s 6 degrees off. No asteroids or comets are actually predicted to hit Earth.
All of this stuff was put together by crackpots in order to promote their books and TV shows, and shamelessly promoted by the History Channel. Don’t take any of it seriously!
The best way is to _inform yourself_ about 2012 by reading factual sites about it, rather than sites that are trying to sell you something. Here are a few:

Hey
what your referring to about planet X is a theory, can not be proved, if we knew that life would not be the same right now
also, what you are referring to is called Ice Shift I believe it is a series of Earth Quakes and the tectonic plates moving with such strength that australia could be in the northern hemisphere.
The Mayans calendar just.. runs out as you should be aware, you should not believe everything you read on the internet this is not all true i am sure you are aware of that.
Buddy, Nothing will happen on December 2012, there is more chance of a Nuclear apocalypse.

No it isn’t.
There aren’t changes every 25,000 years.
No we aren’t.
No it hasn’t.
<13 Mayan crystal skulls can help in some way>
That’s a fable.
My thoughts are that you seem thoroughly confused and need to read up on some proper science, where you will find nothing at all unusual predicted for 2012. Try the site below for a start.

Honestly, I have to agree with you. It’s not just global warming that is a problem, it’s rising temperatures, worse natural disasters (such as the 2004 tsunami), worse earthquakes, worse and more powerful tornados, more powerful hurricanes (like Hurricane Katrina), and many more bad things about this world. I remember that my mom said when she was a kid she use to be able to skate in a lake with the frozen ice, but now because of global warming and rising temperatures every winter it is just icy water. Polar ice caps are melting, and honestly, I do believe the world will end some day, especially when the sun dies out. All the chickens will be half cooked and fried. All the crops will die and it will be a living hell. As far as the Mayans are concerned, I think they might be right about the calendar ending in 2012, I mean, they were good and right about so many other things that weren’t proven right until much later in time (such as the earth being round and a sphere), so why would they be wrong about this? I completely agree with you. For more information, you can look up nostradamus predictions about the world ending. He believes that in 2012, there will be a galactic allignment with the sun that occurs once every 26,000 years. This will cause all global satellites to stop working and cause rapid increase in temperature, causing global catastrophic events, such as a tsunami that is 200 feet high, which is humungous. This will probably lead to many deaths around the globe. In conclusion, we should pray to God and love and respect this lovely Earth as long as we have it… before it’s too late.

I’m sure something will happen, I just don’t think the world will end or any of the things you said will happen. The only reason that there are “more” catastrophic events today than a hundred years ago is because of how small the world is now due to technology. Obviously because we have the internet and such it is much easier to hear about events that we might not have heard about (or cared about) a hundred years ago or more. Also, there is just more an emphasis on record keeping and such. If there had been a tsunami 100 years ago in some remote third world country, I doubt it would have gotten much if any publicity. Today we hear about a lot more events that happen worldwide because people are just more interested in what is going on around the world and because it is possible for us to hear about stuff like that immediately. !00 years ago I doubt any third world country would have even telegraph service much less phone service meaning people in other countries wouldn’t have heard about it (if they heard about it at all) until weeks after whatever catastrophe happened. Also, what is planet x? I have never heard of it and I highly doubt it will crash into the earth.

“21st December 2012 (The day of the Apocalypse) ”
ROFLMAOBBQ!
Oh, wait… you are serious? Really, that is a lot of writing without a single solitary FACT peeping its head up like a groundhog out of a hole. “Polar shifts” not gonna happen. “reprogram and send alot of new satellites” no need and “alot” is TWO words. “our atmosphere is ment to be failing” Uh, “ment”? It’s fine, thank you very much, and call your mother, she loves you.
The Mayans never said 2012 was the end of the world. Give ANY citation where you show they did.
The Mayan calendar doesn’t end in 2012, so who told you it did? Please, mention the name of ANYONE with a degree (from a University, not a seminar in UFOs) that thinks it does.
Crystal Skulls? Hello? Wasn’t that a Indiana Jones movie? Sheesh.
