WHAT WILL HAPPEN ON DECEMBER 21, 2012?
The following is a question being asked on Yahoo Answers. Both the questions and answers given do not reflect the view of our website.
Question:
I HEARD VERY BAD THINGS LIKE THE GALACTIC ALIGNMENT AND PLANET X WILL CRASH INTO EARTH AND SOLAR FLARES WILL KILL US ALL!
Only God knows the answer to this question!!
I bet you, and everyone else who believes in that crap, $100 dollars that nothing will happen
NOTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
wow, that was some dream you had last night.
Planet X already caused the end-of-the-world in June 2003.
In fact, the Big 2012 Hoax was popularized by the same people who had invented Planet X. They were selling a book on how to survive the passage of Planet X (back in June 2003).
After June 2003, their book became useless. So they “recycled” their hoax. They added other lies to it (including the fake end-of-the-Mayan-calendar).
They also sold their idea (or had it stolen) for the movie “2012″ that will come out in November. Yet another end-of-the-world movie that makes no sense.
Speaking of end-of-the-world movies that make no sense, the killer solar flares are from the movie “Knowing”. Solar flares are associated with times of maximum solar activity in an 11-year cycle (the next maximum is in 2013, not 2012).
Different end-of-the-world hoax. Sorry.
I also see that you are not worried by the other ends-of-the-world that will take place between now and December 2012 (for example, May 2011 and October 2011). I guess they don’t feel as real, given that Hollywood is not releasing movies about them…
no, nothing will happen, dont believe in the aztec calendar, its not true, the world will not end, and we will not die
i heard that the world is coming to an end, don’t worry it’s just a bunch of religious freaks worshiping something everyone knows isn’t real. don’t worry they also said 10-23-08 was going to be the end
People might, just might, use the “resolved questions” part of Yahoo Answers.
No. We’ll just all die peacefully ^_^
Ju’t kiddin’!!!

Earth will be incinerating hot, and then it will be surrounded by a pea-soup thick, foggy mist and then Pluto will be thrown to Earth. There’ll be this big*ss crash, volcanoes around Earth will explode, throwing lava, plumes and flames everywhere. Earthquakes will occur, coming from the very core of the Earth itself, and then it’ll go with a huge BANG! and we’ll all die… yeah.
OH STOP ITS NOT THAT BAD JUST THE END OF THE WORLD SO STOP WORRY’N
The mayans (thoguht) that the world would end on december 21, 2012 beacuse the mayan calander ends at that date. Also the palent aligniment will change. But don’t worry, I doubt it will happen. Oh and their is a movie coming out called 2012 and it talks about that if you have more questions. Also check this website out http://www.december212012.com/ and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=11iCmzGnOI8
All that happens is an ancient mayan calendar ends and that’s it. I will even give you a million pounds if we all die.
The world will come to an end. LOL
You’ll be preparing for Christmas.
nothing will probably happen on that day..
butt the rapture/tribulation of the church will happen. no one knows when butt it will. && gods people will leave and the rest of the people will stay and suffer for their sin.

For many months I have had a ‘standard answer’ for questions which involved subjects such as ‘Planet X’, ‘Nibiru’, ‘Mayan Calendar’, ’2012′, ‘End of the Earth’, etc. etc. but I have desided to re-compose it since it seems to be pushing all of the wrong buttons on a lot of ‘people’.
It really is too bad that most people have such knee-jerk reactions when reality challanges any of their personal beliefs. Especially if those beliefs are based upon some sort of ‘pseudo-science’ which gets a lot of air time or, even worse, if it seems to encroach upon some of their cherished beliefs in the supernatural or any sort of organized beliefs holding that the Universe is the result of some omniscient beings whim(s). It just seems to be another measure of how unbelievably stupid and gullible so many people are.
In the last few months (since I started replying to a sudden upsurge of questions about ’2012′) the ‘standard answer’ I have given (and to which I refer above) has been posted literally hundreds of times. And yet, suddenly, I find myself in receipt of violation notices to an answer which has, heretofore, not been considered offensive by anyone. My suspicion is that I have simply ‘tweaked’ someones cherished (and stupidly misplaced) belief(s) in the nature of reality (or the 6:00 O’Clock News).
While my ‘standard answer’ is certainly not any bastion of subtlety or wonderful example of writing style (within the context of contemporary usage of the English language) it certainly seems far less insulting or provocative than the ubiquitouss ‘F–k You’ that shows up on the pages of Y! Answers from time to time.
However…….
It does seem that there have been a huge number of individuals who have been misguided (rather badly, in most cases) in their beliefs. Whether this disinformation to which they have been subjected is accidental or disingenuous in origin is of no real interest. But the promulgation of such untruth(s) (and in particular, such untruths as terrify the younger and more susceptible members of society) without checking their veracity is certainly cause for wondering just how hopelessly stupid some individuals can be. The only ‘people’ of substantially lower moral (and intellectual) caliber are the ones attempting to profit from Chicken Littles irrational belief that ‘The sky is falling!’.
There have been any number of well thought out, well documented, and well presented replies to de-bunk the myth(s) that ancient Mayan calendars, numerology, crystal gazing, spiritual advisors, or other such superstitious nonsense is capable of predicting the end of the Earth. I have lost count of the number of Astronemers (professional and amateur alike) who have refuted claims made for the existence of some ‘rogue planet’ which is supposed to strike the Earth on 21 December, 2012. There are any number of very credible sources on the Web (whose URL’s have been repeatedly mentioned on Y! Answers) providing proof that such things are not going to happen and one would think that, after enough time, some faint glimmer of intelligence reaction to these doomsday myths just might begin to be noticed.
But such is not the case. It appears that, no matter how many times one provides real, factual, repeatable, demonstrable proof of a thing, the ‘popular’ response will shout down reality and those exposed to reality will either change sides, or fail to respond for fear of being ridiculed by those who must be correct since ‘everyone knows it’. Someone once observed that: “Truth passes through three distinct phases. First it is ridiculed, secondly it is violently opposed, and finally it is accepted as self-obvious truth.” It really is a good observation of the average persons ‘mentality’. Apparently the speed of intelligence is rather slow while the speed of stupidity may approach that of light itself.
Doug
nothing!
As said before, one of the Ancient mayan calendars happens to end on that date. That leads some people to think that the world will end on that date. How people make that connection is beyond me.
As for your concerns about planet (or galaxy) alignment, and Planet X, dont worry. There is no Planet X and any alignment would be irrelevant.
Solar flares will not injure you directly, but solar activity can cause serious problems in our satelites and communications and electric infraestructure. Then again there is no evidence that there will be dangerous solar activity precisely on 12/21/2012.
For more information on astronomical disasters, I highly recommend Phil Plait’s book “Death from the skies”.
I thought the Earth was like gonna be covered in water. Have you heard of the movie “2012″? Check out the trailer on youtube.
The sun and galactic center line up every year on december 21st, and yet nothing happens.
There is no planet X. The orbital motions of the other planets would reveal it. They don’t. If you know much about astronomers you know they don’t get secrecy. They couldn’t keep a secret if they had to.
There is no good reason to think the sun will do anything unusual on the 21st. As I said, the galactic alignment happens every winter solstice, nothing happens.
Debunking the “2012 Doomsday”
Rumors of an apocalypse in 2012 are being spread by people in order to make money.
Don’t be Scammed!
There are some things you need to know about the rumors of the “end of the world” or “Planet X” or “Nibiru” in 2012.
The “2012 doomsday” is a hoax, a fraud, and a con job. It is a cruel and cynical lie being promoted by scam artists after money: First they scare people to death that something terrible is going to happen, then they publish books and videos on “how to survive”. See the scam? You’re not going to fall for something like that, right?
The problem is that some people will fall for the scam. Some people will believe it. Some people will spend their money buying books and videos on “how to survive”. They will buy worthless survival kits or spaces in shelters that will never be built.
Some people will die because of these rumors.
If you think we are being overly dramatic, then think about this: In September, 2008, Chayya, young woman in India became distraught and depressed after watching poorly done and over-hyped reports about the Large Hadron Collider. She believed these shows when they said that the LHC would cause a ‘miniature big bang’ or a create a black hole, and destroy the world. She drank insecticide. She was 16.
Why we made this site
One of us regularly visits local school classrooms, giving an astronomy talk and question-and-answer session, and has been doing this for 5th and 8th grade classrooms for about three years. Beginning last year a shift in the nature of the questions was noticed over the year before. Instead of “What would happen if you fell into a black hole?” the questions were more along the lines of “I heard that there’s a planet that is going to hit us in 2012.” When the students were asked where they had heard this information, the top two responses, far in advance of any other source, were YouTube and Yahoo! Answers.
A visit to Yahoo! Answers disclosed that A) There were a lot of people asking 2012 questions and B) there were a lot of people giving incorrect information about 2012. He began writing his “2012 hoax” page in January of 2009, and immediately began getting feedback from many different people who were scared and confused by all of the 2012 doomsday talk. Each time a new issue was raised, the article grew.
By April 2009 the article had swelled to several thousand words, and it became apparent that it needed to be broken up into several smaller topical articles. In conjunction with other authors, amateur astronomers, astrophysicists, chemists, and school teachers, this site was born.
In May 2009, a teacher left a comment on Astrogeek’s blog, commenting on his 2012 hoax article.
…[I] am a teacher and my 3rd graders are hearing about this, and a little child is talking about how if its ending, that she should just end it now. This isnt even close to funny anymore
On the comments page on this site, the mother of a 7 year old says:
I have a 7 year old that happened to see something on the history channel that scared him so bad , he became depressed and often question the meaning of life, like I said above he is 7!!! This nonsense is scaring our children. I found this website and tried the best I can to explain to him it was all a hoax.
A 3rd grader would be about 8 years old. So, in order to make some money, several authors, video producers, and producers for the History channel have whipped up an international hoax, which is scaring 7 and 8 year olds, to the point where they are talking about suicide, or questioning the meaning of life.
Fear and ignorance can kill.
Fire and brimstone coming down from the skies! Rivers and seas boiling!
Forty years of darkness! Earthquakes, volcanoes…
The dead rising from the grave!
Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together… mass hysteria!
Now those of you who know what I’m talking about. If the days seem shorter and faster. When you dream of bad storms. When you dream of fire on the world, and you can fly away from it
WHen you dream of disaster, and you some how pull away from it. look at Acts 2..
17″ ‘In the last days, God says,
I will pour out my Spirit on all people.
Your sons and daughters will prophesy,
your young men will see visions,
your old men will dream dreams.
18Even on my servants, both men and women,
I will pour out my Spirit in those days,
and they will prophesy.
19I will show wonders in the heaven above
and signs on the earth below,
blood and fire and billows of smoke.
20The sun will be turned to darkness
and the moon to blood
before the coming of the great and glorious day of the Lord.
21And everyone who calls
on the name of the Lord will be saved.
I don’t care if it’s called nibiru, bubble boo boo, lolly pop fubu. It doesnt matter what it’s called The Lord is coming. It’s not a game
First off, don’t believe that crap about doomsday. Every generation of people has thought theirs would be the last.
Secondly, yes something is going to happen, and yes the Mayan calendar does end on 2012. Its not because of asteroids or comets either. Its because on December 12, 2012 the Earth’s solar system is going to pass below the galaxies equator. Many believe that this is going to reverse the poles so that the north pole is magnetic south South pole is magnetic north.
So Santa Clause will get lost on his way home because his compass tells him the wrong direction but the right reading. And he heads south away from home
Yeah, right. What’s so bad about galactic alignments, even if they did happen? Where is the physical connection that was not already there? You know, stuff like gravity. How is it going to increase suddenly if this lines up with that and the other? Did the writers of this material mention that? Of course they didn’t because it shows that their statements have no meaning.
Did they say exactly what was going to line up with something else? Probably not and if they did it’s probably wrong or a direct lie anyway.
Solar activity will increase and probably peak in early 2013. The peak is currently expected to be lower than the last one about 9 years ago.
The details behind 21 December 2012 make no sense at all. The originator of the so-called prophecy studied at the University of Chicago in Arts more than 40 years ago. He was Jose Arguelles then. He now says time is faster than light (whatever that means) and that the way we measure time is harmful to all life on Earth (how does that work?).
He now calls himself Valum Voltan and says he is the re-incarnation of a Mayan priest and lives in New Zealand, last I heard. All this stuff was based on the fact that a Mayan count of days runs out of numbers on 21 or 23 December by our calendar. That has as much to do with the Mayan counting system as anything else. The Mayans counted by 20, then by 18s then by 20 again and so on.
The Mayans were pretty fair naked eye astronomers for a stone age people and had enough sense not to predict anything at all, except maybe party time. I reckon they were smarter than Arguelles.
But crazy as Arguelles ideas are, he did not say the world would end on 21 December 2012. All he said was that this would be the beginning of a new era. That was about 20 years ago.
Since then, people who are just as batty, but in a different way have grabbed his ideas and run away with them. Terence McKenna was an habitual user of mescalin, LSD or magic mushrooms and wrote down visions. He also produced a special (mis)interpretation of the I Ching, and when it didn’t quite fit 2012 he fudged it.
Another called Nancy Lieder claimed that aliens had abducted her about 1993 and told her that a planet called X would pass close to the Earth and cause a magnetic pole shift and other damage. That would be in 2003. Since it didn’t come, she started making up stories of how it was a trial to test the governments of the world and that the planet would appear later. She usually says 2012 as far as I know.
Apart from deluded Voltan, drug taking McKenna and probable paranoid schizophrenic Lieder, others have jumped on the bandwagon and have predicted everything from bees dying to collisions with stray planets. There are supposed to be alignments with the other planets or some part of the galaxy, the stories can’[t agree on what, a photon belt, crossings of the galactic central plane and on and on, none of which will happen. And dear old Nostradamus and Edgar Cayce get quoted too, as if anyone believes that stuff.
The promoters of this, including the History Channel are vicious liars and only in it for the money. They are trying to sell “survival” supplies, shelters, books, videos and what all, but to do that you have to frighten people first.
