Why do people think that THEIR time is always the end?

The following is a question being asked on Yahoo Answers. Both the questions and answers given do not reflect the view of our website.

Question:
Someone posted, made me think of “Eve of Destruction” and it was written either in the ’60′s or ’70′s and their talking about the end. People talked about it before Y2K, now it’s 2012 and the Mayan Calendar and the Galactic Alignment. People have thought the end was coming even in Jesus’s time. They thought he was coming back in their lieftime. Another one that stands out is 1492. People thought that was the end because it was supposedily the 7,000th year of Creation. This is why Nostradomus is alive and well. He was vague and everyone applies it to THEMSELVES!

It feels awfully special to be THE one in the End Times ™ though doesn’t it?

To me it’s like the person who thinks Johnny Depp harbors a secret crush on them – just on a smaller scale.

  2. Religion is spread by fear not logic.

  3. People think that the world didn’t always suck. Since they see that it sucks they figure it must be coming to an end. Little do they know, the bad aspects of the world have alway been there… Thet’ve just changed a little as time has gone on.

    I like life :)

  4. only God knows when that time will be but it is getting closer and we will all face God when we die so should be prepared.

  5. Everyone thinks it’s going to be them because it’s natural for humans to expect the worst. We never know when Jesus is going to come. He said he will come like a theif in the night, so nobody will ever know, he will just show up one day.

    An error of Era-centricity…

  7. eventually the earth will wear down from all the life form that’s on it but not in your lifetime ur kids ur kids kids and ect. but i think every one should chill hardcore on that stuff…

  8. Current science unravels the mystery of mass.
In doing so, we are discovering that time and
space are merely by-products of energy.
This new outlook wipes out past notions of
    “beginnings” and “endings.”

They are too chicken to face life with their own wits, and “pray” the end will come so they wont have to toil any more.
    Eve of destruction, TAX deduction?
Why do churches get tax free status, seeems like discrimination to me. Like in the service, they used to say… smoke if you got em, everybody else, work.
People started smoking to get a break. Same with religion. Believe and you get a break, except there is no evidence of that

kind of like one of those mormon/7th day/jehovahs witness people

  11. because they’ve taught to believe in the god of destiny that the bible talks about, and yes DESTINY is a god. I didn’t know that either,at one. Oh, and so is luck.
“But YOU men are those leaving Jehovah, those forgetting my holy mountain, those setting in order a table for the god of Good Luck and those filling up mixed wine for the god of Destiny. found at Isaiah 65:11

  12. At least for Christians, it’s because Jesus said you DON’T know the time, which makes any time a candidate. And the fact that it will come when you least expect it… well, you can see how that would affect you. You have the example of the Great Flood, which is quite terrifying, not to mention Sodom and Gomorrah, for those who feel the evil around them.
What is odd, is that our own personal deaths are likely to predate that, and we don’t worry as much about that.

  13. People are always trying to predict things and they are unsure when the time comes so when something they consider to be catatrophic happens they think thats the end based on revelations. but in Revelations it says that no one knows when God is coming.

  14. Remember Jeanne Dixon? She predicted the world would end in 1969 or so?

I predict the world will go on for another 2000 years or more.

  15. The end of the world scenario may actually refer to the end of an era in time instead of physical total destruction. Some religious types are uncomfortable living their faith in a grossly, secular world and look forward to any predicted signs of ‘getting out of this place’.

  16. It’s been an extension of ‘self destruct’ attitude amongst some humans and they keep sprouting in the history.Or,may be they assigned so much self importance to themselves that they believed that humanity doesn’t deserve to live without or after them.A man’s anxiety about future has given birth to so many other ridiculous pseudo sciences like Palmistry, astrology, horoscopes,Tarrot cards and what not and this ‘eve of destruction’ should not come as any surprise to any sensible person. There were ,are and shall always be NUTS in this world.

  17. Bible teaches that no one should desire the day of the Lord, because it will be terrible……..Jesus said ” And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged…………..and so that day come upon you unawares. For as a snare shall it come on all…………….Watch ye therefore and pray always…………. Luke 21:34 to 36.

The saints are always warning people to be “alert and Pray”, they surely know that the day and hour are known only to God. To be ready lest we are not found sleeping Mark 13:33 to37
The Lord’s second coming may not be immediate but imminent, it is better to be ready than to be caught unawares.

  18. I believe that that is one reason God chose to tell nobody when it was. There is even a parable about this in the bible. It talks about a thief in the night. If you knew when the thief came, you would wait till then, and then you would clobber him as soon as he stepped through the door.

Now, apply that to the end. If people knew when the end was, we would do nothing at all to prepare for it until the eleventh hour. God wants us ready 24/7.

  19. WHO THOUGHT THE TIME OF THE END WAS IN NEW TESTAMENT

    WHAT ARE THE FACTS?

At 2007 after Christ, the bible has been in circulation in the world 396 years
for people to read about the time of the end in Daniel, Dan.12:1-13 [ Michael
& the time of the end, Rev.12:3,4,6-11,12; Michael, THE WORD and Satan to
    have a short time in the time of the end [ Rev.1:1-3,3:14 ]; Matt.13:37-39; 24:3,7,14,15,21,22,36-39; 25:31-34 [ Jesus and the time of the end, to read from a book that has been available 396 years ];

WHAT ARE THE READERS DOING THAT IS WRONG IN 396 YEARS?

    EXAMPLE:

Matt.24:3; What will be the sign of thy coming and the end of the world.
Focus: Jesus 2nd coming, is the end of the world, WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?

John 3:16; For God so loved the world, WHAT IS THE WORLD? WHAT IS HAPPENING TO THE WORLD? HOW WILL JESUS CHANGE WHAT IS HAPPENING TO THE WORLD? WHERE WILL SATAN BE AT THE TIME OF THE 2ND COMING OF JESUS?

BEYOND THE END OF THE WORLD

    Eph.2:7; 3:21; The world with Jesus is without end. John 17:3,17; 2Pet.3:13;
    1Cor.15:22-28,51-53; Rev.20:1-6,12,13 [ NO SATAN FOR 1000 YEARS, now
how much time did he have from Eden [ 6130 yrs ], til no Satan 1000 years?
Rev.21:1-5; All is made as new as before Eden, WHY DOES ALL HAVE TO BE MADE AS NEW AS BEFORE EDEN? WHY SELECT THE ULTIMATE TIME
LIMIT AS 7130 YEARS FOR ALL LOST AT EDEN TO ALL SAVED BY CHRIST JESUS?
WHAT TIME PERIOD ARE WE IN AND WHAT DOES THE BIBLE SUPPORT?

SO WHERE ARE PEOPLE MAKING THEIR MISTAKES IN THESE 396 YEARS?
DOES THE BIBLE TELL EVERYTHING? WHO TRUST THE BIBLE?

WHAT IS THE PROPHECY BEING NEGLECTED IN THE BIBLE?
