Why will the world end in 2012 when all the other times the world was supposed to end it didn’t?

The following is a question being asked on Yahoo Answers. Both the questions and answers given do not reflect the view of our website.
Question:
On New Years eve of 2000 everyone thought the world would come to an end. Im not sure but there were some other years that the world was supposedly supposed to end but didn’t and the bible predicted one of those years i have heard. But im not sure if thats true. Im just wondering, what makes this date more likely to be the end of the world than anyother?

  1. It won’t. That’s only believed by the ignorant and delusional.

The Bible states 120 times, the world will never end. If anything DOES happen in Dec 2012, I would say it might be the final 3 1/2 yrs of the Great Tribulation, when the antichrist rules the world, til he’s done away with.

I believe that time is circular instead of linear, so to me, I just see the end and the renewing of the time cycle. The biggest bit with 2012 is that the info is coming from sources who have been right about many things in the past. A tarot reader will tell you that the death card only means an end of an era, and a new begining.

  4. the world wont end people just find humer in scaring america

  5. It doesn’t no one knows the day or the hour that the world will end. You just have to be prepared.

  6. We developed our calender from the Aztec calender. The Aztec calender ends on December 12, 2012. That is why people think that is the day the world will end. In the Bible it says the return of Jesus will come like a theif in the night, when NOBODY expects it. The Bible does not specifically say when the world will end. But it does say the devil will be released in 2000 years. One day is 1000 years to God and 1000 years is 1day. Therefore it is still the beginning of day 2 for God. He could come back in 2099 and it would only be the end of his day. Make sense?

  7. Think realistically (based on fact) and not superstitiously (based on fear).
How can someone predict the world will end? What do they know that we don’t know now? How do they know it?
Answer–they don’t. People get off on making other people scared. It gives them power. People like power.

  8. Not anywhere in the bible does it state a date in which the earth will come to an end; only matters directly peripheral to Christ’s return. What makes 2012 interesting is because the Mayan Calendar ends on that year. If it weren’t for the Mayan Calender, people wouldn’t think twice about 2012.

  9. there’s no reason for the world to end on that date anymore than it is for today. God is in control and the world is not, NOT going to be destroyed by a natural disaster anyway. God promised he would never again destroy the earth. He says the next time this earth is destroyed it will be by fire and by MAN.

Have you been looking at the signs all around you? Do you not know you have nuclear warheads pointing at your city and every other city right now as we speak? God’s word is real, people. Read the bible.

  10. Well, when every single Unix computer crashes in 2030, and people panic because they can’t buy, sell, or get money out of ATMs, then I think social unrest will be something to see. Other than that, I’m going to try a little harder to live a good and kind life so I’ll be ready for my own demise.

  11. My point exactly! People have been predicting the end of the world since the beginning of Civilization. This is no different. It was predicted by the Mayas, but some say it is the end of life as we know it rather than the end of the world. That is not to say that man will all dye, it just means things are going through a drastic change. Really the one (or ones, depending on your belief system) who created all this is the only one (or ones) who knows when it will end. As for the Bible, the book of Revelations was written by men who wanted Jesus to return to them immediately and end all their problems (a carryover of Jewish thinking that the Messiah would destroy all their enemies and be their king until the end of time.)

  12. First, let me say that Y2K would have been a technology based issue, not a prophetic/mythic/religious issue. So they are on pretty different levels.

I have to say that I agree with Wicked Witch. The end of December 2012 is supposed to be the end of the Mayan calendar. However if you think about it, our calendar ends at the end of each year. Don’t you think it’s possible that the Maya would have just turned the page to the start of the next one?

As far as the end of 2012… I do believe it’s a sign of the change of the way the world is operated. But if you stop to think…. this is actually already starting to happen NOW.

It is stated in Revelations that only God knows when the end of the world will occur. The physical world is not any more likely to end in 2012 than at any other point in time. This is not Christian doctrine in any way.

The theory that the world will end in 2012 originated because of an ancient form of the Mayan calendar. This calendar, like the one we follow now, repeats itself after a set period of time. However, this Mayan calendar repeats only after very long intervals (many, many years). Some people have mistaken this process of repetition to be the end of the calendar altogether. And somehow this ending was correlated to the end of the world.

It really has nothing to do with Christianity. There is no physical or spiritual Christian evidence to back up this theory.

Won’t it be interesting to see how these armageddon folks celebrate the Christmas of 2012?

  14. welllll nobody knoz 4 sur u kno?mayb mayb not.i mean mayb the aztecs or wutever got tired uv makin a calendar so they ironicly stopd on that day…*just a thot!!!* if uve ever herd uv nostradomus or however u spell his weird name…he predictd lots uv stuff (jfks death, twin towers) nd he also agrees tha world will end on dec 21 2012 he sed that ther will start 2 b n unatural amount uv natural disasters nd all dat bad stuff around the 21st century……but that culd jus b a coincidence…lk i sed mayb mayb not. (=

  15. will it realy end in 2012 im scared now gosh im scared outta my witts now!!!!!

  16. well, the mayan calendar that SOMETHING is gonna happen. so, it might be bad, or it might be good. mayans were very different people and they believed in very strange things. so nothing might happen at all. but,in the end it all depends on what you think. like, theres some people that think the world is gonna freeze. others think a pplanet from outer space is gonna hit earth. some people even think aliens will come and destroy earth. what if this dec. 21 2012 apocalypse is all… a fake? you know, well just have to wait. oh, and what do you believe?

    True Time vs. False Time

Time is fractal in nature. It repeats itself in definite and regular patterns. That is why some prophecies can have double and even triple reference. You have probably heard the wise ole maxim: “history always repeats itself”. There’s more truth to that than you may know!

False time (‘Satanic Calendar’) is the 13:20 ratio of the Tzolkin long count of 5,125 years broken down into 13 baktuns of 144,000 days each. This count only runs from right before the Great Flood til the ‘abomination of desolation’ (winter solstice 2012). It was given to the bloody Mayan pagans by Pacal Votan. Other parts of the world received it by meduimship, spirit conjuring, and divination like the Chinese I-ching for example.

True Time is a dispensation of 7777 years that started back in 4762 BC. Joseph Scaliger came VERY close to this with his “Julian Period” in the 16th century. We add 4762 to negative BC dates to get thier True Time date and add 4761 (since there is no zero in our Gregorian calendar) to all AD dates. The 7777 years can be divided into 7 periods of 1111 years. 1111 whispers out in many ways to all ready for True Time understanding and no it is not a coincidence. It can also be broken down into 11 periods of 707 years. These are the 11 ‘weeks’ of mankind’s history referred to in the book of Enoch.

The Tribulation will be from summer 6770pc – summer 6777pc (summer 2009AD – summer 2016AD). [pc = 'post creation']
The midpoint of the Tribulation is December 21, 2012 (2012 is the Year of the Dragon)
The most wise prophet Daniel showed us that we can also find the beginning if we just subtract 1260 days from that evil date and find the end if we just add 1260 days to it.

The Millennial Age will be from 6777pc – 7777pc (2016AD-3016AD)

The square root of 1111 has a VERY SPECIAL meaning as well!

  18. No one knows when the world will end but God, He alone knows not man.

  19. All other times given did not go to 2064 CE.

Judah kings end year 3460 [ 606 BCE, now at 2009 CE ], that
was 2615 years ago of [ 2300 years has passed, 2500 years
has passed, 2520 years has passed, 2580 years has passed ],
    and Dan.12:1-12 [ 2x 1335 is ], 2670 and it is 2615 now, so no
one has ever in the past given these times of prophecy that has
been in the sum of Daniel, he gave 1st and 2nd coming of Jesus
in full all but the day and hour that God alone knows of ; Matt.
    24:3,7,14,15,21-24, 34, 36. 1Thes.5:1-9,21,22, We are not left
in the dark, but can be children of the light to know the second
coming of Christ Jesus, that the world will not know as for their
attitude toward Matt.24:3,14, to act like, 2Tim.3:1-7, never able
    to know the truth.

It isn’t going to! The bible is fiction.

This sort of question is for deluded people!

  21. It won’t! The only way the world is going to end is with the death of the sun, and that is not expected to happen for at least 2 Billion more years. Don’t sell your life insurance, or your real estate…as most poor schmucks did, less than a hundred years ago, because their guru offered then another of the thousands of predictions of the end of days. Poor bastards sold everything, dressed in white and then sat on the side of a mountain, like the brain-washed idiots they were…while NOTHING happened.

  22. To surprise us!!!! ;)

  23. No! It’s the Mayan calendar that ends on 12.12.2012 so soe people think that they predicts the end of time due to their other accurate predicts. It’s that they died out before they finished their calendar and 12.12.2012 was the last date that we’ve found.

No one can predict the end of time unless we see a huge asteroid coming.

  24. Follows Jesus on April 2nd, 2010 at 5:21 pm

    it won’t end in 2012

  25. not only do people think the world will end in 2012 because of the Mayan calendar but have you noticed that 12 years ago in 2000 it was the year of the dragon? im guessing that every 12 years they think the world will end since its the year of the dragon
