Dude, If the humans being know when the world end. the world shouldn’t exist. From now on people already pray to god or do something good if the confirm 2012 is the end. Who knows maybe tomorrow .

It is possible, as everything is, but highly unlikely. Look, just think it through logically, how would the Mayans know? It’s just their calendar, that’s it. It’s a human invention that ends in 2012. It’s not like it was embedded in nature itself.

The Mayan calendar supposedly stops at “Dec. 21, 2012, when the Maya’s “Long Count” calendar marks the end of a 5,126-year era.” Like tea leaves, people read much into that.
One problem is calculating this date to our calendar. An excerpt from some discussion runs: “in which the Venus Round is cut short after 61 Venus cycles to locate a new 1 Ahau Sacred Day of Venus near an actual Venus morningstar appearance, is probably only one of many conceived by the Maya…potent Venus Round of 37,960 days…dichotomy between Lounsbury’s work and Thompson’s, … correlation question…Thompson correlation of 1930 (corr# 584285), while Thompson himself revised it 2 days in 1950 (corr# 584283).

So what will happen on this date (or has already happened, or may happen some indefinite time before or afterwards?)
“Lawrence Joseph forecasts widespread catastrophe in Apocalypse 2012: A Scientific Investigation Into Civilization’s End. Spiritual healer Andrew Smith predicts a restoration of a “true balance between Divine Feminine and Masculine” in The Revolution of 2012: Vol. 1, The Preparation. In 2012, Daniel Pinchbeck anticipates a “change in the nature of consciousness,” assisted by indigenous insights and psychedelic drug use.”

What so others say?
“For the ancient Maya, it was a huge celebration to make it to the end of a whole cycle,” says Sandra Noble, executive director of the Foundation for the Advancement of Mesoamerican Studies in Crystal River, Fla. To render Dec. 21, 2012, as a doomsday or moment of cosmic shifting, she says, is “a complete fabrication and a chance for a lot of people to cash in.”

Here’s the thing. The Mayan date is only the latest in a long line of immindent disasters. A review of the last 40 years has these books and events predicting disaster:
1968 “Population Bomb”. Too many people in the 1980s and starvation.
“Famine 1975″ In that year we run out of food
“Greening of America” We all become hippies eating un-homogenized peanut butter.(I know, but it was a popular book)
“Future Shock” We’ll have too many choices. (The concept of multi-tasking wasn’t known)
the 1970s had a concern of a “new ice age” we should increase the greenhouse effect (What does that say about global warming?)
“Jupiter Effect” the planets will line up and the earth will do something
.
“Y2K” Points given for those that can explain “why” it was a concern.
Millennium Supposedly it was to be the end of the world. The question was”Is it 2000 or 2001?”
If you get the impression, there’s a lot of disaster predictions and they sell books, you’re right. So what will happen the day after the supposed disaster? Do you really think all those authors, and film makers and pundits are going to say that they were wrong? I doubt it.
During the 1800s there were a number of movements that predicted the end of the world. People gave away everything they owned and gathered to await the end. A couple of days later, they started trying to get their stuff back.

No, the world won’t end.
Mayan civilization as such no longer exists (at least not in its old form).

I think somethings gonna happen but it depends on how the world will end. if the earths just gonna explode or get hit by an astroid or something than i dont believe that. If it’s gonna end in a way like, theres gonna be a world war 3, than i’d believe that more, but i dont know everyones talking about it. I think something gonna happen. what? i dont know

According to the Mayan beliefs, it’s just the end of a cycle. While it was a big deal, it was a reason for celebration, feasting, and happiness that they’d made it to the end of a cycle and could see the start of a new one. It only happened every 144,000 days, so you do the math. It was kind of like the end-of-the-millennium stuff we saw in 1999-2000. In addition, there was an attitude of optimism and hope that the stuff in the new age would be better than the stuff in the one finishing up. Kind of like a “fresh start, new beginnings” deal. The apocalyptic crap is entirely a product of astrologers of our modern-day frauds who want to make a buck. The big scare that they’re trying to put into everyone has nothing to do with the Mayans. Yes, they noticed when the 144,000 days had passed and a new cycle began. No, they did not think the end of the world was coming. They thought it was pretty cool, and they also thought it was time to party. But I’m not a Mayan, and we had our own millennium parties so recently. So I’m not going to celebrate again. I already had my once in a lifetime thing. I’m done.

One of several Mayan calendars is the Long Count calendar, which is reset to day 0 every 1,872,000 days or 7057.5 years. The next reset date, by some calculations, is December 21, 2012. This is not a prediction of the end of the world.
Ever since the Y2K and 6/6/6 (June 6, 2006) End of the World scenarios did not pan out, the scare mongers, conspiracy theorists, book sellers, and television executives have been touting the 2012 End of the World scenario. When 2012 does not happen either, I am sure they will think of something else.
“But of that day or hour, no one knows, neither the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. Be watchful! Be alert! You do not know when the time will come.” (Mark 13:32-33)
Jesus told us in no uncertain terms that we were not to know when the end of the world would come but that we were always to be ready.
The early Christian Church thought that Jesus was going to return at any moment. Only after a couple of centuries did the Church realize that it may be 2,000 or 4,000 or 8,000 years before Jesus returns.
The Catholic Church wisely follows Jesus’ advice and teaches that each of us should live as if we will meet our maker in the next ten minutes and that we need to work to make the world a better place for our 100 X great-grandchildren.
Do not worry about the end of the world. Trust God to make sure everything happens to plan. Just be ready to meet God at any time.

Dear Jayp,
I think people are confusing several ideas . . . the plight of the poorly read and uninformed, perhaps.
You may think this is of interest:
No, there is no proof of any such occurrence(s).
There may very well be some VERY strange and dangerous occurrences at that time, thou.
The earth is expecting what is known as a “SOLAR MAXIMUM” in the year 2012.
When the S. M. occurs, there is normally a GEOMAGNETIC STORM of varying degrees.
This occurs cyclically, every 11 years.
When this occurs, AND IF we get a very severe “Plasma Storm” due to the CORONAL MASS EJECTION, then YES, it could knock out all “Modern Communications Equipment” and even our Power Grids.
If it knocks out our Power Grids, not only will the Internet disappear but all electrical power in the effected areas.
Basically, it would put us in the Stone Age again, “Technologically Speaking”.
The pertinent problem is that we have absolutely no way of predicting the magnitude of the Plasma Storm, and thus guard against it without shutting down EVERYTHING electrical at the time of the Solar Maximum.
I took your question seriously, so I have answered it truthfully, and provided information that you can access in order to find more actual scientific information on the subject(s).
This is nothing new. It has occurred before and is historically documented. There was, however, not as much “fragile electronics” at that time (q.v.).
So, unless you own an Electronics Company, Power Company, Computer that you are very reliant upon and such . . . . no need to worry . . .
Be Well!

Honestly, I was pretty skeptical about the whole Mayan thing at first. My uncle is big on apocalyptic doomsday theories and he was the first one to mention this to me. I studied physics in college, with an emphasis on astronomy, so the theory about the earth’s magnetic poles flipping when the solar system passes through the galactic equator got me a little interested. I decided to do some research on my own and came up with a few interesting things.
First let me explain a few facts. The earth’s electro-magnetic field, the magnetic poles, and the magma core are all interconnected. We have a magnetic north and south because tidal forces between our planet, other planets, the sun, etc. keep the core in a continually rotating liquid magma state. North is north and south is south because it rotates in one direction. If that direction were to change, then magnetic north as we currently know it would become south. This rotating magma core also drives the earth’s electro-magnetic field. Like any magnetic field it also has a north and a south. If the earth’s magnetic poles flipped, so would the electro-magnetic field. This field protects the earth from all kinds of radiation that is very harmful to living things. For example, solar flares; without the electro-magnetic field the earth would be ravaged by massive outbursts of radiation from our own sun’s solar flares. Instead, we see a beautiful spectacle in the northern sky known as the Aurora Borealis (caused by solar radiation interacting with the electron stream in the electro-magnetic field at the magnetic north pole). Needless to say, if the tidal forces driving the earth’s core were to change significantly due to say, the passage of the solar system through the galactic equator, then it would take the core a long time to eventually slow down and begin rotating the opposite direction. During this time the magnetic poles and electro-magnetic field would gradually weaken and eventually collapse until the core gained enough momentum rotating the opposite way to restart it. In addition some scientists believe that a super massive solar flare (the likes of which we have never witnessed) could possibly flip the polarity of the electro-magnetic field which would in turn have the same effect of slowing down and eventually reversing the earth’s core. There are many theories out there on how such an event could happen, but regardless, if it did the effects would be catastrophic and last a very long time (increased volcanic activity, earthquakes, harmful solar radiation, etc.).
In my research of this issue I uncovered a few very startling and potentially ominous facts. I figured that if an event such as the reversing of the earth’s poles has happened in the pasts like many scientists claim, then there would be some sort of geological or archeological record. So I googled “mass extinctions” and found a nice graph on wiki of all the previous peaks in mass extinction of species throughout the earth’s history. The greatest of these was named “The Great Dying” where 90% of all marine and 70% of all land species mysteriously went extinct. This happened about 251.4 million years ago. Then I looked up the time it takes our solar system to make one complete revolution around the galaxy and to my surprise I found that the best estimate is between 225 and 250 million years, give or take a few million of course. Don’t believe me? Just google “galactic year”.
Now match those facts with the end of the current Mayan calendar on Dec. 21st 2012, the alignment of the center of the galaxy, the sun, and the earth in the galactic equator on 11:11am gmt on Dec. 21 2012. And you can’t forget the sun’s 11 year sunspot cycle which will be transitioning into its next cycle with a fiery display of solar flares at about the same time.
So the question is, based on that knowledge…what do you think will happen? The truth is that astronomers have no definitive answer on what effect, if any, the alignment and passage through the galactic equator will have on our fragile little planet. But historical data and ancient Mayan prophecies point to something very significant. The world most certainly will not end. Whether or not humanity survives is another question entirely.
