Year 2012? will the world end?

The following is a question being asked on Yahoo Answers. Both the questions and answers given do not reflect the view of our website.

Question:
ok so i don’t know if you guys are familiar with some of the talk about the world ending 2012. Well basically the mayans calendar ends this year. I like to believe they just got lazy and didn’t wanna keep writing a calander for a year they werent gonna be alive for. All their other predictions are so accurate. The same year they are the testing the largest particle accelerator ever. I wouldn’t mess with fate if i was them. Geologist have also set the date for the yellowstone volacno to errupt 2012. (the world biggest volvano). Also the magnetic poles of the earth are due to swap places at any moment.. It does every 750,000 years. We’re way over due for that. I never really thought about it because is not really important for me as a person but now that i have my little one i don’t wanna think that she’s gonna be gone at four. This is not some crazy guy saying god told him, Is scientist after years of studies.I know is probably a bunch of rubish but i wanna know what you guys think?
I’m sorry about the horrible orthography but I was trying to make it fit… and I didn’t put the question in the wrong section I want to know what mommies think about this.
i never believe for a minute in the whole 2000 and 6-6-6 crap. I’m not fanatic about religion either. Is just that as a science and math lover things keep adding up. For all predections there is a five year period before and after.

My husband keeps citing religious “proof” that the world is going to end soon. I told him I don’t want to think about it because if it is going to end soon, then getting pregnant was pointless.

I honestly don’t believe I will be alive when the world comes to an end. I think it’s going to happen, but not for many, many years yet.

And besides, what happened to the computers crashing and the world coming to an end in 2000? I didn’t see that happening….

No, the world won’t end just because a calender stopped. They try to tell us the world will end all the time… We survived Y2K, we survived 6-6-6, I think we can make it through the end of the calender and uh, just make our own new calender.

  3. but they also said the world was going to end in 2000 or 2001 cnt rember what one we r still all here so it might not be tru. lets hope its not

  4. Ya, I saw a special about it on The Discovery Channel. The actual date is December 21, 2012. That is my daughter’s 7th birthday. It is so incredibly creepy to me and I really hope the Mayans just quit working on it. I would really hate for the young children of today to not have a chance at a full life, but we can only make our time here worth it and make it worthwhile for our children.

Its also amazing that they created a calendar that went so many centuries after their civilization.

  5. The world won’t blow up when the poles shift. They are actually moving all the time.

Here is an entirew website dedicated to those teories though.

These are all things I would rather not think about.

  6. When the year 1000 was approaching, farmers didn’t bother to plant crops because of the “proof” that the world was going to end. The new year came and went, and we’re obviously still around and kicking. I personally don’t believe any of the so – called “proof” that the world is going to end, much less in a specific year. If it does, it does. But it would be a waste of my life to walk around believing such drivel.

yah,I saw a documentory saying our solar system will be lined up with a black hole which means we could all get sucked in like that video “Black Hole Sun” ……
    pretty creepy …….

Well if you’re religious at all

But of that day and that hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father.
    Mark 13:32

According to the Bible no man can predict or know the day and hour the world will come to an end its all just a guess

  9. It is irrelevant, you do the best you can for as long as you can and when things out of your control take you to a place beyond what you have power over you live or die with it.

If you live your life in fear than you will not get anything real out of life.

So live your life to the fullest and love your child each day like it’s your last and even if the world ends in 2012 they will have lived a rich healthy 4 years.

That is indeed scary to think about with having young ones.

We need to live today like there is no tomorrow….

  11. The Mayan calendar, as a unit of measuring time, does not ‘end’ in 2012.
The calendar for THIS AGE ends.
It does not imply the end of time- it implies the end of time being measured IN THIS AGE.
Mayan civilization died out- that might explain part of why there is nothing for the next ‘age’.
There is a vast difference, and we have been at the end / in a transitional astrological/ astronomical age for several years now- it’s not a one-day thing.
The religious fanatics got a hold of a little bit of information and started a bit of a panic- well you know what they say- a little bit of information is a very dangerous thing.

If you google the national museum of Mexico in Mexico city and look for their info on Mayan civilization, they should have a section or at least some good references on Mayan time keeping; obviously (due to location) they have extensive banks of knowledge on the subject.

  12. I honestly dont know what to believe, but there are waaay too many things pointing to this, the mayans, the I ching, and then those two brothers working for NASA… I dont know but i do know that I will just Have to love my Beautiful Wife And Beautiful Daughter every day i can.. funny my child will be 4 then too….
And year two thouand was not about the world coming to an end, so i wish you all would stop referring to that, it was just about computers shutting down and causing mayhem cause of how much we relied on them but bill gates came out w a hotfix long before that ever really became a problem… this is on a much higher tier of problematic predictions that that y2k garbage…

  13. if so i would rather not think about it. my boy is brand new also. I hope he can see the wounderful things in life.

  14. Mommy2be32308 on June 3rd, 2010 at 12:46 pm

No person will ever know when the world is going to end.I do think it is getting closer but there is no way to really tell when god will end it..I don’t believe half of the stuff scientists say..

  15. i was wondering about this the other day, im not a nutso my history teacher told me about this when i was in high school. it mite happen it mite not, enjoy everyday just incase!!!
